WMUK’s Friends Advisory Committee was formed in August of 2011. The WMUK Friends Advisory Committee advises the station on matters related to content creation, fundraising, marketing, delivery systems, assists in an advocacy role for WMUK and in connecting the station with audiences and resources within the community.

The next scheduled meeting of the WMUK Friends Advisory Committee will be on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Richmond Center for the Visual Arts in Conference Room R2305 on the main campus of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. This meeting is open to the general public.

WMUK Open Meeting Policy for the WMUK Friends Advisory Committee:

The WMUK Friends Advisory Committee was created in 2011 to advise station management on matters related to public broadcasting. 

The mission of the WMUK Friends Advisory Committee is as follows: “The WMUK Friends Advisory Committee advises the station on matters related to content creation, fundraising, marketing, delivery systems, assists in an advocacy role for WMUK and in connecting the station with audiences and resources within the community.” 

Members of the Friends Advisory Committee are selected from the community by station management.  The public or any member of the FAC may suggest members for future Friends Advisory Committees by writing WMUK, Friedmann Hall, Kalamazoo, MI 49008-5351.   

Meetings of the Friends Advisory Committee will occur 2 to 4 times per calendar year.  Meetings are announced in advance and are open to the public. Dates, time and place of meetings are posted at wmuk.org at least 7 days in advance of the meeting.

At least three consecutive days during each calendar quarter WMUK will run an on-air announcement which explains the station’s open meeting policy and provides information about how the public can obtain information, about specific dates, times and locations. Notification of Friends Advisory Committee meetings will be provided to those requesting this information.       

Should the Friends Advisory Committee decide to hold a closed meeting, meetings or close a portion of a meeting for reasons cited in Section 396(k)(4) of the Communications Act, WMUK will provide written notice on WMUK’s website in advance of the meeting and cite the reason for closure.  

Members of the public attending the meeting and observe it may do so without identifying themselves. Comment sheets will be made available to the public for written comment during the meeting.

Approved minutes of meetings will be posted on WMUK’s website within 7 days after approval. Minutes will also be available for reading in station files. This Open Meetings Policy is also available in station files. A copy of each of the above will be available upon request.

This policy is pursuant to the open meetings provisions of the Public Broadcasting Act.
